When Cora and her Owner, Madison Palm, arrived at the terminal in the airport, Cora immediately went over to a man sitting alone. They had never met this man before. The stranger’s sadness wasn’t initially apparent, but he was sitting somberly. Even her owner was amazed. How did she know?
Sometimes we can tell when your furry pooch has special abilities. Whether its sensing the presence of cancer in their owner to even simply knowing where you hid the bacon. A lot of our furry besties can tell when you need a hug or when you need to talk. But do they typically do this for strangers?
Cora the corgi was special. She had an amazing gift of empathy and the ability to tell who needed comfort. She had a was especially able to connect with people, even perfect strangers to provide comfort even if it was for a short meeting.
Her amazing empathy is likely because she was neglected by her previous owners and longed to be loved. Cora was forced to live outside for 7.5 years- most of her life and was underfed. Instead of becoming bitter, scared and untrusting of other humans, she grew to understand and see pain in others in order to comfort them.
“She is very empathetic and in tune with my needs…,” Palm told TODAY.
“She will walk up to a crying child and try to lick them and rub her head on them. She lives for making people happy again,” Palm said
This is why Palm had her certified as a therapy dog. She recognized that Cora had an amazing ability to sense someone’s pain and make them feel better.
This was especially apparent in an emotional meeting between Cora and another airline passenger. He needed the comfort and touch from a furry companion. He was a complete stranger.
