Dogs are an invaluable part of society. They are not only our companions but their amazing abilities have been used throughout the ages to help their owners. Some dogs that can alert their epileptic owner to an oncoming seizure or a diabetic when their blood sugar is dipping too low. They can also sniff out substances used to make bombs and narcotics that could not easily be detected. Which makes them perfect for police and military work.
Thus it isn’t a surprise that our furry best friends are often relied upon to use their nose for important and life saving tasks in police departments worldwide. So today’s story is on an amazing police dog that works hard in our community to keep us safe, his name is Dax.
Meet Dax
A law enforcement and arson detection dog named Dax is a one-of-a-kind police dog and K9-unit hero. This award winning Dog is able to detect substances and find suspects even when other dogs could not. The work Dax has completed has been invaluable.
Dax was given to his partner Officer John Forlenza of the Lake County Sheriffs Department, when he was a 9-10 months old. Officer Forlenza was picked to become Dax’s handler because of his extensive knowledge about dogs. They have such an amazing partnership and have developed an unbreakable bond.
What made Dax an exceptional police dog was his performance. Officer Forlenza and Dax were responsible for the detection and seizure of almost 20 kilograms of heroin. Dax was also directly responsible for saving over 80 lives and apprehending numerous fleeing suspects. Officer Forlenza and Dax became so efficient at their job that they had numerous awards and citations from their police department.
He is truly an exemplary police dog that genuinely loves doing what he does. When Officer Forlenzo and Dax aren’t busy chasing suspects or detecting illegal substances, they visit schools and educate children about what they do.
